The first Eden home was built in 1857 for herdsmen Erastus Bingham & Joseph Hardy. More settlers arrived in 1859 and established a community. The settlers hired Washington Jenkins, a government surveyor to plot the area. Jenkins named the area "Eden" because he claimed it was the most beautiful land he'd ever seen.
